Delphi Steering (Saginaw) satisfies customer demands for both on-time delivery and quality with Haven
To satisfy the demands of its automotive industry customers, Delphi Saginaw has to cut tubes for steering columns to very accurate lengths and chamfer both inside and outside diameters. Delphi's business is growing and the addition of several new part numbers has increased volumes and created frequent changeovers, causing a bottleneck that threatened on-time delivery. Multichair's Multitube operation produces metal tubes for several diverse industries. Their customers order thousands of tube lengths with many different shapes and dimensions. Most applications require tight tolerances (automotive, healthcare, etc) or attractive finishing (e.g., furniture and fitness products) or both. Multichair needs cutting equipment that not only satisfies these criteria, but because of their very high volume and many different setups, they also need a system that requires only a short time to reconfigure and is easy to operate. SWT has an in-house metallurgical staff that can analyze even the most demanding application and develop a custom solution that will satisfy both the exacting standards of their customers as well as their aggressive delivery requirements. Super Sagless, part of the multinational Leggett & Platt corporation, processes steel tubes from several tube mills within L&P's Steel Tubing Division. Most of Super Sagless' final products are destined for the general furniture business, to include the residential (bed frames, chairs, etc), commercial (office furniture, bookcases, etc plus medical products), and industrial (storage shelves, racks, etc) segments. In addition, Super Sagless customers also include automotive manufacturers who use their tubes in vehicle seats and other applications. Most projects use high quality, low cost tubing and focus on JIT delivery and emphasize cost-effective solutions to help their customers maintain their competitiveness in their increasingly challenging and fast changing marketplaces. more
